LIT is a one-of-a-kind program at YMCA Camp Weaver that is
designed to build leadership skills, group skills, confidence, and character. LIT
is meant to be the first step towards being a camp counselor, and is considered
a prerequisite for those wishing to enter our selective Counselor-In-Training
Program.
LIT is a two-week program for rising 10th graders.
The first week of camp is spent in traditional camp activities for half the
day, and leadership training for the other half. During the first week and a
half, the group of 10 campers and their counselor will work on a service
project for the betterment of camp. Campers will also receive backcountry
training, with skills taught ranging from Leave No Trace Camping Ethics, fire
building, shelter building, and outdoor cooking. During the second half of week
two, our LIT campers depart camp for three days for an outdoor adventure
leadership trip. The LITs will plan and execute virtually every aspect of the
trip for their group while being facilitated by two staff who are there to
supervise and assist as needed—it is the culmination of every leadership skill
they have learned and practiced thus far in the program.
CIT is the follow-up to the LIT program for rising 11th
graders, with campers coming to camp for three full weeks. Successful participation
in the Camp Weaver LIT program or equivalent leadership training is required
before admission to the program.
The CIT program starts before your teen
even arrives at camp. All CITs must submit an application, obtain letters of
reference, and schedule their own interview with a Camp Weaver Program Director.
Once at camp, the first two weeks of the program are dedicated to learning
skills and techniques in managing camper behavior, developing camp activities,
and learning games and songs. Our goal with the CIT program is to equip your
camper with the tools to be not only a great camp counselor, but develop into a
well-rounded person.
If you would like to sign your teen up for these exciting
programs or have any questions, please give me a call at the Camp Weaver office
or email me at luke@campweaver.org. I believe that all of our
campers have the ability to learn leadership skills and excel in both the
Leader In Training and Counselor in Training program, and I am excited to see
them at camp in any capacity this summer!
This sounds amazing! Jake will see you for LIT, session 1, this summer! Camp Weaver is the best!
